Product Design

Overview

Radical Agronomics is a suite of nutrient management tools which is streamlining and redefining the soil testing process. What has always been a lengthy and expensive process for researchers and agronomists is now more efficient, accurate, and cost-effective than ever before.

Radicle Agronomics includes tools for soil collection (GeoPress), analysis (Radicle Lab), and digital equipment operation (Radicle App). The app allows users to plan out their field sampling, track the sample processing, operate the physical equipment, and view results from the lab.

Scope

As the entire Radicle Agronomics system was in the early phases of R&D for over 5 years, the mobile and web apps were made by engineers for engineers. Much of the information displayed in the app was highly technical and unnecessary to a typical user.

Now that the system is ready for a broader commercial release, I have been tasked with creating key features, improving the overall user experience, and aligning the design with the brand. Completed features include chemical management and fault resolution with updated navigation, diagnostics, and more to come in the future.

Chemical Management

Primary User: Lab Operator

Chemical exchanges allow for operators to automatically track and manage chemical levels and inventory. Several steps are required for the process:

  • Replacement prep

  • Neutralization

  • Scanning bottles

  • Priming

  • Calibration

In total, these steps can take up to 2+ hours to complete. With this in mind, the exchange process was designed with flexibility in mind. It was also important to ensure users were reminded of the steps and specific chemicals throughout the process.

Fault Resolution

Primary Users: Lab Operator, Technical Support, Field Tech

When faults occur with the machinery (Lab or GeoPress), it’s important for users to quickly resolve any issues that may need their direct attention since these issues may have a direct impact on their business operation. To accomplish this, we created clear, step-by-step guidance through the resolution process for common mid-level faults.

Future Updates (planned and/or in progress)

  • Updated Navigation

  • Refreshed UI across the app

  • Revising fault resolution with user feedback

  • Account management for teams
